Jack Brooks: Monster Slayer (2007)

Every so often a movie comes along that looks bad but you just know is gonna be awesome. JACK BROOKS: MONSTER SLAYER was one of those movies for me. When Demented Dave first pointed this one out to me I knew I had to see it.

It follows the story of Jack Brooks, a plumber who when he was young witnessed the brutal slaying of his family by a monster. Fast forward to years later when Jack is grown up and he continuously struggles with a rage that he has to fight to control. In an effort to help him his girlfriend enrols him in a night class but little do they know that he has taken on more than he bargained for. Whilst fixing the plumbing at his professors (Robert Englund) dilapidated old home he inadvertently disturbs the ground around the property, which awakens, an evil blackheart that forces it way into Professor Crowley and sets about a gruesome transformation. Jack then is forced to fulfil his destiny by confronting his past.

Like I said I was looking forward to the movie but I had no idea that I would have enjoyed it quite so much. I was a total throw back to old horror movies. I kept thinking of it as a cross between TROLL (Robert Englund in particular when he is completely transformed) and EVIL DEAD.

The problem JACK BROOKS will have is that will probably only appeal to the horror community, which is a great shame because if other people could dis-engage their brains for an hour and a half and realize that they’re not watching a movie that has great acting, a great storyline and amazing special effects and instead see it for what it is then they would probably enjoy it.

An absolute must see for horror fans and for me personally an absolute must own!
