It's been announced today that Tim Robbins has joined the cast of GREEN LANTERN alongside Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively which was based on the DC Comic which told the story of Hal Jordan, a second-generation test pilot who finds a downed alien spacecraft. A dying alien dying named Abin Sur passes his power ring to Jordan, introducing the man to a wider world that includes an interstellar police force known as the Green Lantern Corps and its overseers, the Guardians of the Universe.

Robbins will be playing Senator Hammond, the father of the movie's villain, Dr. Hector Hammond (Peter Sarsgaard), who becomes infused with psychic powers.

GREEN LANTERN is said to start filming next month in New Orleans and has a tenantive release date of 17 June 2011.
