REVIEW - FORGETTING SARAH MARSHALL (2008)
When I first saw the trailer on TV I instantly dismissed FORGETTING SARAH MASRHALL as another run of the mill romantic comedy and therefore decided not to bother with it. The majority of the time I'm wrong and the movie turns out decent so when I decided on this occasion to give this one a chance.
The story follows Peter Bretter (Jason Segal), a guy who's doing well for himself. He writes and performs the musical score for a successful TV show and dates the hot TV Star Sarah Marshall. Peter is left heart broken when he is dumped and decides to go to Hawaii to try and get over his pain and change his life for the better. Little does he know that Sarah has also travelled to Hawaii with her new boyfriend. With the help of his new friends and a possible new love interest Peter tries to forget about Sarah Marshall.
All in All the movie came as quite a surprise to me. I had missed the posters and the tagline, which actually told me it was from the makers of THE 40 YEAR OLD VIRGIN and KNOCKED UP (Which I loved!) which would have definitely made it more attractive to me. The movie definitely had the same type of humour however it was toned down a little more than usual. Russell Brand is not someone I would usually watch but I have to say he was quite funny throughout as the eccentric rocker Aldous Snow. Jonah Hill was also quite amusing as the stalker waiter. As for negatives strictly due to personal taste I did cringe a bit when anything romantic happened and I also felt the comedy was a bit more lacking than in THE 40 YEAR OLD VIRGIN however having said that I can honestly say that FORGETTING SARAH MARSHALL is one of the very few romantic comedies which I actually enjoyed.
